The theatrical release will see the film released 17nd July 2012, 2 weeks prior to the Olympics.

“We’re thrilled to be unveiling this behind-the-scenes chronicle of the events that preceded and followed the Olympic’s most gripping image, particularly, just before the much-anticipated launch of the UK Olympic games!” says Blair Haynes, Director of Programming and Sales.

“Salute” is the story behind the black power salute at the 1968 Mexico Olympics where Australian silver medal winner Peter Norman, who showed his support for Smith and Carlos by donning an “Olympic Project for Human Rights” badge on his way to the podium. The film documents the subsequent reprimand of all three by Olympic authorities, their personal and professional setbacks and Norman’s reunion with Smith and Carlos, shortly before his death in 2006.

“It’s been a long time coming for the rest of the world to get to see this important and moving film” said Michael Favelle. “What better time than now!”

“Salute”, was produced by Instinct Entertainment and written, produced and directed by Peter Norman’s nephew, Matt Norman.

“The inside story of the salute is gripping!” – Daniel Williams, Time

“Gracefully executed, a portrait lovingly rendered, and a credit to Australian filmmaking! … This is a documentary with resonance. It will spark conversation. It will add depth to an iconic moment in history. From a documentary, we can’t ask much more.” – Dave Robson, Sight and Sound

“A labor-of-love docu. Heartwarming, spirited!” – Russell Edwards, Variety

“WILL MAKE ZOMBIE FANS JUMP UP AND DOWN WITH EXCITEMENT!” - ZOMBIE-POPCORN.COM

indieFilmNet is pleased to announce the release of Cristian Toledo and Lucio A. Rojas’ enthralling Spanish language horror thrillerZOMBIE DAWN from Eagle One Media. Opening April 20, 2012 and available for booking throughout the summer, this edge-of-seat zombie-feast is all the more impressive when one appreciates the extent to which ZOMBIE DAWN redefines the term ‘micro budget filmmaking’. The resourceful directing duo, with their debut film, could have literally made Paranormal Activity ten times over on their ZOMBIE DAWN budget. By any criteria, one remains in awe of the filmmaker’s and cast’s creation of such a riveting, suspenseful and entertaining experience that no doubt fans of The Walking Dead will enjoy.

Not only have they produced an exciting addition to the gruesome canon of Zombie films, they have also published a bilingual English/Spanish language 24-page collector’s edition comic book with a tie-in story. Theaters can elect to have their name/logo on the cover of the collector’s comic and use it as a giveaway promotion to Zombie-files who attend ZOMBIE DAWN screenings – a ‘compliments of’ gesture for their loyal patrons.

iFN is proud to work with Odin’s Eye Entertainment on the release of writer-director Berndt Mader’s soulful feature debut 5 TIME CHAMPION. Set in a small town in Texas, the coming-of-age dramedy has the perfect combination of heartache and adventure. While 14-year-old high school science superstar Julius (Ryan Akin) steadfastly researches the asexual reproduction of worms, his eccentric family is being pulled apart by troubles he believes must be sex-related. He discovers his grandfather is visiting a woman other than his grandmother; his mother is estranged from her prospective fiancée (and Julius’ assistant principal) and running around with a young townie who Julius looks up to as a big brother. To top it all, while he wrestles with his dad’s mysterious departure some years ago, he’s losing his best friend and girlfriend Shiley to a hunky classmate. Julius decides to take matters into his own hands and embarks on an odyssey to hold his family together. His efforts meet with extraordinary and mixed results sabotaged by his scientific expectations of people (including himself). When the dust settles, old wounds are given a chance to heal, hearts win out and Julius champions a new beginning for his family.

5 TIME CHAMPION features an inspired ensemble of talent, including Tony award winner Betty Buckley (“CATS”), Dana Wheeler Nicholson (“FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS”), Jon Gries (NAPOLEON DYNAMITE) and Robert Longstreet (TAKE SHELTER), shot on film with music by composer Graham Reynolds (A SCANNER DARKLY).

92 minutes. In English. Unrated.

“5 Time Champion,” written and directed by Berndt Mader, is a kind of indie Every Film…well observed, a bit quirky, regionally distinct (it takes place in Texas) and aware of human complexity.” -NY TIMES

“Sad, funny, heartbreaking and heartwarming…a true winner!” – Scene Stealer

“Although the movie has some big names, none shines as bright as young Ryan Akin, who… captures the angst and confusion of teens everywhere!” - Charles Ealy, THE AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN

“An exceptional movie in every way! Much of the credit goes to Mader’s tightly written script. When it’s funny, it’s uproariously so… When the script is poignant, it studiously avoids being cloying; there are many quietly reflective scenes that engender great sympathy for the characters without movie-of-the-week melodrama.” - Don Clinchy, SLACKERWOOD

5 TIME CHAMPION previewed in New York in January and will be available for booking everywhere in March! Please contact bhaynes@indiefilmnet.com for booking information.

iFN adds Rumpelstiltskin from the London Children’s Ballet to its Cinema Meets Culture series!

The new ballet based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale is set on stage at Peacock Theatre in London’s West End and performed by the acclaimed London Children’s Ballet. The London Children’s Ballet is a charity founded in 1994 to give talented young dancers ages 9-15 a unique opportunity to perform as part of a professional ballet production. LCB engages top emerging composers and choreographers to create original family ballets and has a reputation for excellence so the quality of dancing is outstanding.

As with most fairy tales, the plot of Rumpelstiltskin exists more in the imagination than in the few pages written by the Brothers Grimm. In developing a ballet scenario from the brief skeleton of original story, London Children’s Ballet narrative invents delightful reasons for a father’s outlandish claim that his daughter can turn hay into gold. The LCB production also offers an entertaining rationale for why Rumpelstiltskin appears at just the right minute to save the young woman from the King’s threat of death, but then meanly demands a first born child in exchange! The miller of the original fairy tale becomes a dastardly milliner in the LCB adaptation, opening a myriad of rich possibilities for comedy and stunning costumes in the world of hat-making. The story is full of laughter, grandeur, Kings and Queens, promises, deceit and desire. Over 150 beautiful costumes were created for Rumpelstiltskin; the set design, where hay magically turns to gold, is reminiscint of Gustov Klimpt and dazzles audiences young and old. Perfect for adults and children alike, the London Children’s Ballet’s adaptation of Rumpelstiltskin is both a wonderful production and a unique opportunity to see the remarkable abilities of this internationally renowned young ballet company – not to be missed!

Rumpelstiltskin is available starting in February, 2012. Please contact bhaynes@indiefilmnet.com for booking information.

Some holiday movies are just plain fun. A bunch of the very rarest (and sometimes weird) Christmas filmic moments have been gathered together in Santa’s Cool Holiday Film Festival for what has to be the funkiest, silliest and least emotional movie experience you’ll have this holiday season. Well, unless you count hysterical laughter as an emotion.

iFn and Holland Releasing are thrilled with this cinematic Christmas stocking, loaded with retro-cool presents of all kinds. There are two vintage Technicolor cartoons from the brilliant Fleischer Brothers, Max and Dave – Christmas Comes But Once a Year (1936) and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1948), the first animated version of this classic tale about the outcast little deer who saves Christmas. But there’s more! … including Christmas fun with Howdy Doody, Ozzie and Harriet, ventriloquist Shari Lewis and her hand puppet Lambchop, as well as a wonderful bunch of “Greetings From The Theater Management” trailers made for movie theatres. It’s all sure to inspire a kind of unsettling nostalgia among Baby Boomers who’ll surely remember this when they were kids. For their kids and grandkids these mind-boggling artifacts will seem either surreal or cheesy – or both. But that’s the real fun of this show.

The biggest, most brightly-wrapped gift under this gaudy and colorful Christmas tree is the unforgettable (even if you try) 1964 feature film, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Kids will love it. Of course, connoisseurs of bad B-movies consider this one of the worst, which means it’s one of the funniest. Best known as the screen debut of famously inadequate actress/singer Pia Zadora, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians is a baffling mixture of sci-fi, Christmas cheer and childish slapstick, all filmed in garish (or as the poster says, “Space-Blazing”) color. And you’ll see how important that color is when you find out that Pia plays the entire role with a bright green face. Everything in Santa’s Cool Holiday Film Festival was mastered from the best surviving prints. These films haven’t been seen on the big screen in decades and the pictorial and sound quality are first rate.

Back when many of the movies in this amazing program were new, films were often advertised as “Fun For the Whole Family” – a perfect description for Santa’s Cool Holiday Film Festival. Want to find out how much fun that is? Instead of watching the same old Christmas movies on TV, hustle the whole clan down to your local theater for a delightful afternoon or evening of new Christmas memories.

The King’s Singers are a Grammy award-winning, world-renowned ensemble known for their captivating live performances, impeccable vocal blend, and utter perfection in every aspect of their music. Once performers at the Winter Olympics, their arrangements are now sung by amateur and professional ensembles all over the world. Paisley Abbey, parish church to the Church of Scotland, has a long and internationally recognized choral tradition. King’s Singers St. Luke Concert & Christmas in Rosslyn Chapel give audiences the chance to experience these brilliant vocalists spin their seasonal magic in two Christmas concerts in one night!

The Paisley Abbey Choir‘s Christmas concert was presented at Rosslyn Chapel (recognizable from Dan Brown’s blockbuster The Da Vinci Code) on the outskirts of Scotlandʼs capital city of Edinburgh. It features a selection of Christmas carols as well as arrangements for the bagpipes, harp and oboe. The King’s Singers January 2011 concert was captured at the stylishly distinctive Jerwood Hall in LSO St. Luke’s, London. Their program features the perfect blend of traditional and modern Christmas classics, such as Joy To The World, Deck the Halls, Lullaby My Liking, and even some international favorites including Nöel Nouvelet and El niño querido. There truly is a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy.

This two-for-one concert special perfectly captures the warm feel of Christmas as well as the charm and skill that you’d expect from musical ensembles of this calibre. Come Christmas time, this is a concert combo to treasure!

“The King’s Singers are beyond doubt one of the finest vocal groups in the world… I urge you to see these guys!” - Lizzie Bennett, Cambridge Tab

“A stunning display of unaccompanied part-singing by six consummate vocal artists!”– BBC

“The King’s Singers’ style is beautifully detailed, and even the most familiar carols sound fresh.” - Classic FM Magazine

“Precise intonation, instinctive articulation, a downy, luxuriant tone, all captured in an excitingly lifelike recording.” - International Record Review

“…the whole thing is just gorgeous, and if you love Christmas music recordings, well, what are you waiting for? This is one of the best ever.” - Classicstoday.com

INDIEFILMNET

A new and fully-supportive digital cinema network membership for independent content – indieFilmNet (iFN) – has just been launched, and is good news for exhibitors wishing to fill more screens, and more often, with both the right product and audience.

In Cinema, fast-paced Hollywood blockbusters are always the talk of the town. With their high production values, multi-million dollar promotional budgets and Oscar-night presence, the Hollywood majors still dominate the theatrical business. And yet, in today’s Exhibition marketplace, even the biggest hits don’t have quite the staying power as before. Shows once lasting months now stay onscreen for only weeks – or even just a few weekends – before moving on to the post-theatrical world in the blink of an eye. Major opening weekends are becoming bigger than ever, but there are never enough of them and so keeping auditoria full remains an ongoing challenge.

Exhibitors recently began looking past the Hollywood billboards for other sources of audience-drawing content, and saw a world of independent content, comprising a fantastic array of shows ranging from unique features, to recordings and live transmissions of sports and stage classics. Exhibitors understood that independent content could be the answer to keeping cinemas full, but issues of access, patchy content buying-leverage (by smaller chains and independents), organizing targetted promotions, and a technology gap, had each conspired to keep it all out of reach. Into that void stepped a new type of content distributor to provide the complete solution: the digital cinema network operator.

FLEXIBLE ALL-IN GLOBAL PACKAGE

indieFilmNet (iFN), with offices in New York and Montreal, is an emerging player in independent content distribution, offering movie theatres a unique, all-inclusive, membership package of high quality diversified content, leading-edge technology and community-oriented promotion. With network locations established in the U.S., Canada, South Africa, Australia, UK, East Europe, and Latin America, iFN already has a strong global following. While the company’s unique offering is to drive its cinema membership base, it is rapidly building up its repertoire of original classical content, live and recorded concerts, specialty feature films, documentaries, and other channels targeting select audiences.

A big element of iFN is its cutting-edge technology. Members receive a custom-built digital player with 2D and 3D playback, surround sound, and peer-to-peer Internet delivery of features, trailers, and promotional content. The company’s operations centre provides the services for encoding films, while maintaining, or improving, the content picture and sound quality to ensure that only the highest quality final product reaches theaters. However, iFN uniquely allows cinemas to plug-and-play their own local content through the iFN HD/3D Player; hence, cinemas can use the player to ingest and play pre-show packages, local advertising, short films, trailers, and other features. And despite its advantages, the new technology isn’t forced on the clients; iFN accommodates whichever technological direction each cinema wants to take.

PROMOTIONAL

While diverse content and effective, low-cost technology are critical elements of the modern digital cinema, they won’t fill seats without promotion. iFN doesn’t just provide great Alternative Content to its member cinemas, but also helps them attract the right audiences. Instead of pitching shows one at a time, network members are encouraged to book targeted series to attract recurring audiences, and iFN works with the member cinemas to find local community groups and connections that help build the audience. Focusing on special interests and demographics makes promoting the content series a lot easier and less expensive. Using social media, online video mail and other promotional technologies rounds out the solution.

indieFilmNet is redefining the role of the digital cinema network operator in the independent content arena, making it easy and cost-effective for exhibitors to take advantage of this market by maximizing opportunity and eliminating obstacles. iFN is where membership definitely has its privileges.

Working with Corinth Releasing (www.corinthreleasing.com), indieFilmNet is proud to present KLITSCHKO; the documentary that took the Tribeca Film Festival by storm. Klitschko will premiere in select theaters starting October 28th.

Hailed as one of the best documentaries of the year at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival, Klitschko is the riveting, true story of Ukrainian brothers Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, who began their heavyweight boxing careers in 1996 and changed the sport forever. Filmed by award-winning German director Sebastian Dehnhardt, the documentary follows the brothers’ ups-and-downs during their extraordinary 15-year-reign over the boxing world. The chronicle features never-before-seen footage and secret information about the brothers, speculated about for years but never divulged. Dehnhardt exposes insightful details about their careers, and digs deeply into their poignant family life as they grew up in Ukraine. Klitschko presents a captivating glimpse into the lives of the first brothers in the sport of heavyweight boxing to ever hold world titles at the same time. Who really are Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, both human wrecking machines in the ring but with PhDs and fluent in 4 languages? How long are they likely to reign over the boxing world? Only one way to find out.

“Excellent documentary!” – boxinginsider

“One of the best docs at this year’s festival (Tribeca). Highly recommended!” – Libertas Film Magazine

“If it need be scored, I would give it a 100/100 score with absolutely no hesitation!” – East Side Boxing
