The Classical Programme showcases presentations from worldwide prestigious contemporary performing arts companies including acclaimed productions of theatre, opera and ballet.
The new ballet based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale is set on stage at Peacock Theatre in London’s West End and performed by the acclaimed London Children’s Ballet. The London Children’s Ballet is a charity founded in 1994 to give talented young dancers ages 9-15 a unique opportunity to perform as part of a professional ballet production. LCB engages top emerging composers and choreographers to create original family ballets and has a reputation for excellence so the quality of dancing is outstanding.
Choreographed by the brilliant Helgi Tomasson, San Francisco Ballet’s magnificent production of Nutcracker is one of the world's finest productions of the classic ballet, playing to unanimous critic acclaim and sold-out audiences each December. Set to the music of legendary great Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky, Nutcracker is a treasured holiday tradition for families everywhere! With each scene of sugar plum fairies, fighting mice and magical journeys to enchanted lands more breathtaking than the last, Nutcracker truly is what dreams are made of.
Beautiful, romantic and dramatic on an epic scale, a new version of the fairytale classic has been created for the Birmingham Royal Ballet as the highlight of its 20th anniversary season. The Christmas 2010 production marks the world premiere of the first new three act story ballet this century.
Three geniuses: Shakespeare meets Mendelssohn meets Balanchine at Sadler's Wells for enchanting A Midsummer Night's Dream ballet. Choreographed by artistic genius George Balanchine, Shakespeare’s comedy of magic and love’s delusions is a supreme audience pleaser, set to the beautiful music of Felix Mendelssohn. The Pacific Northwest Ballet, based in Seattle, is one of the largest and most highly regarded ballet companies in the United States and known for its fascination with George Balanchine. A Midsummer’s Night Dream is a milestone for the company, winning the highest award from IMZ Dance Screen.
The remarkable 7th Century BC Greek theatre in Taormina is the site for this powerful production of Puccini’s masterpiece Tosca. The role of Tosca seems made for the celebrated Vienna-born soprano Martina Serafin. Her fiery passion is matched by the great baritone Renato Bruson’s extraordinary Scarpia, crushed between relentless passion for Tosca and the demands of political duty. Enrico Castiglione directs the work with tremendous originality and dramatic power.
Stunning cult Italian soprano Francesca Patanè sizzles in the title role of one of the most famous operas of all time. Supported by a cast of international stars, Puccini’s Turandot is masterfully directed by Enrico Castiglione. The combination of powerful performances and Taormina’s unique setting (beautiful 7th century BC Greek theatre overlooking the Mediterranean) make this Turandot unforgettable.
Hugely popular, Aida continues to be one of the most famous operas and is one of the great successes of Teatro Antico in Taormina. Directed by Maestro Enrico Castiglione and starring exciting Belgian soprano Isabelle Kabatu, Aida has a terrific cast including Salvatore Licitra, Juan Pons and Rossana Rinaldi. The ambiance of Taormina’s remarkable ancient Greek Theatre makes Aida a magical experience, situated at the heart of the little southern Italian town, on the top of a hill overlooking the Mediterranean.
For sheer entertainment, La Fille du Régiment can’t be beat. Especially when it’s served in such a saucy light-footed way by French soprano Natalie Dessay, not only a dazzling singer but also a gifted actress. She effortlessly sweeps her castmates along in this turbulent buffo delight. Her co-star is Juan Diego Flórez, one of the leading young tenors of our time.
Andrea Breth’s “phenomenal ‘Onegin’ interpretation” (F.A.Z.) features a tour de force performance by fabulously gifted baritone Peter Mattei. His co-star, dazzling Russian soprano Anna Samuil, has already been acclaimed as one of the vibrant new voices on the operatic stage. Daniel Barenboim and the Vienna Philharmonic bring the beguilingly dark score to life with flashes of brilliance.
Carmen makes a triumphant return to the theater of its birthplace: the opulent, newly renovated Opéra Comique in Paris. The new critically-heralded production of Carmen is brilliantly staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Adrian Noble and ignited by the performances of the spectacular soprano Anna Caterina Antonacci in the title role and an all-star cast.
Teatro Real’s much-awaited production of Katia Kabanova, featuring Karita Mattila's triumphant performance, is universally universally acclaimed by critics as a perfect piece of opera. The production dazzles due to the stunning beauty of Canadian Robert Carsen's theatrical production, his magical direction and a bold and powerfully poetic stage design. All the action takes place on a huge expanse of water, filled with the reflections of extraordinarily graceful images shaped by exquisite lighting.

indieFilmNet is pleased to announce the release of Cristian Toledo and Lucio A. Rojas’ enthralling Spanish language horror thrillerZOMBIE DAWN from Eagle One Media. Opening April 20, 2012 and available for booking throughout the summer, this edge-of-seat zombie-feast is all the more impressive when one appreciates the extent to which ZOMBIE DAWN redefines the term ‘micro budget filmmaking’. The resourceful directing duo, with their debut film, could have literally made Paranormal Activity ten times over on their ZOMBIE DAWN budget. By any criteria, one remains in awe of the filmmaker’s and cast’s creation of such a riveting, suspenseful and entertaining experience that no doubt fans of The Walking Dead will enjoy.
Not only have they produced an exciting addition to the gruesome canon of Zombie films, they have also published a bilingual English/Spanish language 24-page collector’s edition comic book with a tie-in story. Theaters can elect to have their name/logo on the cover of the collector’s comic and use it as a giveaway promotion to Zombie-files who attend ZOMBIE DAWN screenings – a ‘compliments of’ gesture for their loyal patrons.
Filmed in Chile, ZOMBIE DAWN contemplates the aftermath of a mysterious mining accident that has unleashed an unspeakable horror, creating a zombie horde with an appetite for human flesh! The only solution was to seal off the infected decimated areas from the rest of the country and its remaining, living population. Now 15 years later, the tattered remains of the government and the supposedly at-fault mining corporation commit themselves to finding out what may have happened at the mining complex to cause the epidemic. A small, disparate group of mercenaries and scientists are assigned the mission of venturing into the quarantined zone to find answers. Crossing over into the forbidden zone is only the beginning….of The War For Our Survival! Starring: Cristian Ramos, Pamela Rojas, Pablo Tournelle, Guillermo Alfaro, and Felipe Lobos. Running Time: 84 min., Rating: TBA. To see the preview trailer, go to http://indiefilmnet.com/ifn_sp/index.php?show=ZombieDawn.
*** As an added BONUS for theaters, ZOMBIE DAWN is accompanied by the entertaining 6 minute 3D stereoscopic computer animated horror short HAMBUSTER (www.hambuster.com).
Marketing of the film will not only center on a theater’s local community horror genre fans but also any Hispanic areas due the film’s natural Spanish language presentation. Among other marketing points emphasis will be made of the unique theatrical comic giveaway taking place.
